Rapid City to Sioux Falls

Does there seem to be a lack of coffee shops on this blog?  It sure feels that way to me.  I've been able to maintain my morning coffee, but that's about it.  Between the 35 degrees, trying to make a mile, and stopping at mostly highway rest stops without brewing facilities, my java intake has plunged.

Maybe that's why I've been such a confused ninny with this blog and post in the incorrect order and mislabel the posts.  Please forgive my caffeine depleted brain.

So, we didn't make it to Mount Rushmore as originally planned last night.  The boys needed a good romp in the pool, then they gobbled up their Alphaghetti, snuggled up on the sofabed to watch cartoons, and we shared a pint of ice cream.  Now THAT's a good evening.  Kim rolled his eyes when he asked how much the hotel was charging for the ice cream and my response was that I didn't know.  However, this morning the bill came in and it was only $3.96.  I had been expecting double that.  At that price, why, we couldn't have eaten two pints!!

Black Hills, South Dakota

Mount Rushmore.  Can you name the presidents?

From left to right:
George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln

And this is Theo, totally missing the view!!

After leaving Mount Rushmore, we headed back to the hotel so the boys could have another quick swim before starting our journey onto Sioux Falls.  I booked a hotel for the night last minute based on Trip Advisor, and then we were off again.

One thing I'll say about the States, they have great rest stops.  Look at this lovely little one we found in Mordo, South Dakota:

So, the hotel that we found in Sioux Falls ended up being the absolute BEST we have ever stayed in as a family.  The pool had two waterslides:  one super twirly fast one for crazy old Levi (although Theo did go down several times, too) and one smaller one for Theo.  The suited room was huge, and there were fresh chocolate chip cookies awaiting our arrival.  The Clubhouse Inn and Suites was a fun stress relief that all of us needed.  Yeah to Trip Advisor!  And yeah to Sioux Falls!

Oh, and right across the parking lot from the hotel is a coffee and espresso bar....so guess where we're headed tomorrow before saying adios??!!

  1. At first I thought you'd missed Mt Rushmore but then I see it was just for that day!

We all love a pump! One highlight at www.hayinginthe30s.org too.

We are glad that your trip is going well. NE of Edmonton is to be prepared for quarter sized hail tonight.
